Can someone please help me differentiate the roles internal audit plays in fraud verses external audits?

I am working on a powerpoint presentation for my class and could use some help explaining the role internal auditors play in regards to fraud verses external auditors, I am sure it is simple but everything I am finding is pertaining to the internal auditors role according to the standards.
